Sands Timaru and Districts

Sands Timaru & Districts is run by parents who have experienced the death of a child or baby.  We offer empathy and understanding and support to parents of miscarriage, stillbirth, newborn, cot and infant death.

This support is based on our own experiences and by training received by Sands New Zealand. We are not counsellors, but offer a caring environment where parents can meet with others to share their experience, thoughts and feelings and grieve.

Support is offered by one to one support, telephone contact, group meetings, relevant reading material and videos from our library.  We also publish a newsletter.  We provide support packs to Jean Todd Maternity Unit, and also Miscarriage Support packs to other departments of Timaru Hospital.

The running of our group is dependent on fundraising and donations.

On the first Sunday of December we hold our annual “Children’s Candelight Remembrance Service”.  This is held at the Gleniti Community rooms.  We believe it is important to take time in our busy lives especially during the pre Christmas rush to reflect and remember our beloved children who are no longer with us.

If you or someone you know could benefit from the care and understanding that Sands Timaru & Districts can provide then please don’t hesitate to contact us on 027 825 9406.

May 2015 marks the 25th Anniversary of the group starting! To the left is a pricture of our memorial tree and plaque.
